The grand massif
The Grand Massif Domaine Skiable is located in the Haute Savoie region of France, with Samoëns being just a 1hr drive from Geneva Airport. The ski area is made up of 4 main villages, and they share a fully linked ski area of 265km of piste - with something for everyone, whatever the level. The Grand Massif height ranges from 700m (when the conditions are right, you can ski right to the valley floor in Morillon!) to 2500m, meaning that there is enough variation, from tree runs to out in the open above the tree-line, and with Flaine itself boasting it's own micro-climate, the Grand Massif is pretty snow-sure from pre-Christmas right up until after Easter. Also being in close proximity to the Mont Blanc Massif, there are many great vantage points for viewing Mont Blanc itself and the Aiguille de Midi.
The Grand Massif also the home of the longest piste in Europe - the Piste Cascades, which takes you from the top of Flaine around the back of the ski area, where you can't see anything but mountains and nature. This run is usually open over February and March, conditions permitting. For more info on the ski area please click here.
